LOS ANGELES – Liam Hemsworth is in the hospital and could not make the world premiere of his comedy “Isn’t It Romantic” Monday night.
But the Australian actor sent a glamorous reinforcement to “represent” at the gala event – wife Miley Cyrus, who walked solo down the pink carpet in a flowing Valentino gown.
“I was all dressed up, my man’s not well. I’m representing for him,” Cyrus told reporters.
“So proud of my hunky hubby,” Cyrus said on Twitter. “He unfortunately wasn’t able to attend due to health reasons… but he is recovering and taking this time to rest / heal. It’s hard for entertainers to put themselves before the project but this time it was crucial.”
“Getting sick blows,” Cyrus wrote in another tweet. “Get well soon babe.”
Hemsworth had missed a day of media for the movie in which he plays an overly romantic billionaire on Sunday (including an interview with USA TODAY). He was also noticeably absent as Cyrus performed onstage at the Grammys in the evening.
Co-star Rebel Wilson said Sunday during an interview that Hemsworth had texted saying that he was “in hospital.”

More: Pro wrestling. Action. Death. Is this the least romantic Valentine’s Day at the movies?
“He’s still in the hospital,” Priyanka Chopra, who also stars in “Romantic,” said of Hemsworth at Monday’s premiere. “He texted us a picture of himself in the hospital this morning. It’s terrible. There’s no world he would have missed this otherwise. I wish he was here.”
Director Todd Strauss-Schulson said Hemsworth was sending updates in a group text message chain.
“The latest is he’s on the mend but he needs to relax a bit,” said Strauss-Schulson, “And it’s amazing that he sent Miley here for him.”
Hemsworth, who secretly married Cyrus in December, apologized to fans for missing the event on Instagram.
“Been dealing with some pretty annoying health stuff the last couple days,” he wrote below a picture of Cyrus and Wilson on the red carpet. “Lucky I have the best girl in the world to represent for me! Thanks for the support babe!”
