Kyrie not worried about Celtics' struggles 'because I'm here'

A strange and inconsistent season for the Boston Celtics hit another bump Saturday night in a 126-116 loss to the bottom-feeding Chicago Bulls.

After a number of critical comments following losses at various points this season, Kyrie Irving struck a much more confident tone this time. Asked if he was worried about the Celtics’ struggles, Irving simply answered, “No.”

And why not?

“Because I’m here,” Irving said.

Boston lost its second in a row since returning to action after the All-Star break. Irving had a team-high 37 points and 10 assists. It was a far cry from the last time the teams met on Dec. 8 when the Celtics handed the Bulls the worst loss in franchise history with a 133-77 rout.

The Celtics remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. After advancing to the East finals last year, they came into the season with high expectations and were projected to be one of the top teams in conference and league.

Irving said he isn’t too concerned with losing games in February. He said he’s only worried about how the team looks come playoff time. And he’s confident in that regard, too.

“It is what it is. I don’t get frustrated by this stuff anymore,” Irving said. “It’s just part of the regular season. In the playoffs, when you can plan for a team, prepare for a team, I still don’t see anybody beating us in seven games.”
