When Chip Kelly arrived in Philadelphia in 2013 to take over the Eagles head-coaching job, he seemingly had a roster perfect for the system he ran at Oregon. There was speed all over the field — from Michael Vick to LeSean McCoy to DeSean Jackson.
Kelly just failed to recognize that, according to Vick and Jackson.
The former Eagles teammates made live appearances on Bleacher Report’s Simms & Lefkoe Podcast. When Chip Kelly was brought up, Jackson immediately said, “He messed up the Dream Team. The real Dream Team.”
They said that Kelly arrived without naming a starter for any position. He had seasoned veterans competing for jobs against practice squad players, which wasn’t taken kindly by Vick and Jackson.
That was when Vick revealed that he felt so betrayed by Kelly’s insistence on a quarterback competition with Nick Foles that he broke down in tears before a preseason game.
“True story: That year, I’m laying in my hyperbaric chamber before a preseason game – I never told y’all this. I’m battling Nick Foles for a starting position. Now, I’ve been a starter for 12 years of my career. Now I’m in a battle, which I’m clearly winning. Nothing against Nick. Nothing but respect for him. We love him to death. I’m sitting in my hyperbaric chamber with tears coming out my eyes, crying, because I’m like I did everything I could for Chip Kelly.”

Vick ended up getting injured after a 1-3 start to the season, and Foles took over to lead the Eagles to an NFC East title.
Vick joined the Jets the following season where he started three games.
